The price range that you specify will get you plenty of ‘netbooks’ and ‘mini-laptops’. These have really small screens (~10″), are more light and portable (than the conventional 14″-15″ laptops that we are used to seeing around) and run on the Intel Atom processors (which result in better battery life, but lack the processing power that conventional laptops have).

The configuration of the laptop must match your way of using it and for which purpose, Should be DirectX11 compatible to host Windows 8 if you have in mind upgrade to Windows 8, if not DirectX10, but for the coming new games DirectX11 is important.
