Can you recommend a free resource for logo design?

Kareena asks:

I’m trying to find a free way to design a cool logo for my new business. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Drawplus as a free design program works well to create intuatuve designs aswell although if you feel that this program is limited in some ways it might be worth investing $50 or so into a program especially if you are serious about what you want to achieve

Pen and a piece of paper. You could start a business providing free services to anyone.

    Good luck!

As someone who works at a sign shop and regularly has to use customer logos, my recommendation would be to pay a graphic designer to design your logo if you actually want to be able to do anything with it. The type of “Free Logo” sites that have been posted here typically require a purchase from them and usually give you a thumbnail image at best to use so then when you go try to have anything else made with it you’re going to have to pay more than you would have payed in the first place because it take more time to have it recreated exactly than to create a new design.

Asking for free design services is unethical. Plus, it says a lot about your character and how you run your business. Don’t make the mistake. Take Matt L’s advice — hire a pro.

Also own a sign shop and we are big-nuff now that if you come in with a loser logo, you
have 2 choices #1 we send you pack-en nicely , #2 we send ya pack’en laughing . We also take no newspaper or Business cards without workable art work and most if not all don’t have a clue what that means.

I also vote for hire a pro. There are lots of excellent graphic artists freelancing through various outlets on the Internet including eBay, Craigslist, etc. I’ve had some surprisingly good work done at VERY reasonable rates through artists I found through these venues (and all in the US if that matter to you). I was skeptical at first, having been a corporate marketing exec previously and used to paying agency rates or in-house artists, but I’ve been more than happy with these “outsourced” jobs.

As with most things, you get what you pay for. If your new business is truly important to you, invest in your brand. A pro designer will be your best bet for matching your logo to your company’s personality and purpose.

I’ll do it for free. I’m a graphic designer and let me tell you something about us. We’d be designing for fun even if we weren’t getting paid big bucks.
