    GNU Cash is nice open source accounting software

    You could always use a spreadsheet. I wrote a tutorial on making one, along with a download of an OpenOffice formatted spreadsheet.

      Forgot to mention... Google Docs can handle OpenOffice formats if you don't want to use OpenOffice. Unfortunately, Microsoft Office has had a very poor record of keeping with open formats.
