Can you recommend an app that will let me play my iPhone via a Sony HDTV?

You need an apple tv, ios5, and a 4s to achieve this. Then you can use airplay.

You can use an iPhone HDMI adapter. It’s not quite an app but it works quite well. Also, search for it on Amazon rather than Apple if you’d like the adapter a little cheaper.
