What do I do when I receive a text message saying my Facebook account has been accessed?

Jijo Reed asks:

I received a text message saying that my Facebook account has been accessed by an unauthorized device. The text said I would get an email but I did not. How can I find out who logged in to my account?

Go here: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=security&section=sessions&view and click on ‘Active Sessions’ and you should be able to see what accessed your account and from where.

Then go here, and change your password: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=account

You can also go here and remove them as a recognized device so if they log in again you get another text: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=security&section=devices&view

As far as Facebook is concerned, you are the one who logged in. Facebook is merely seeing a new IP address as the source of your login. It can happen if you are now using a VPN when you previously weren’t. Did you log in from a new location? Were you using someone else’s WiFi or logging in from your local Starbucks for the first time?
