How can I receive a free SMS alert for new emails?

Sk Nepal asks:

I would like to receive free SMS every time I get a new email on my inbox. I did find awayfind.com and some other services, but they are not free to use. Please let me know.

The link to GSN SMS Notifier leads to a site which isn’t there. Seems like it has been down for some time now. By the way, Michael’s answer helped me. Thanks, anyways.

I tried that before posting the question here. For some reason, the gmail to SMS recipe does not work..but I cannot understand why. I do receive SMS alerts for weather, twitter mentions and rss updates but the gmail to sms recipe and facebook notifications to sms recipe does not seem to work.

I have had the same issues with Gmail, filters, labels and the calander spreadsheet script. It is so hit and miss. One day it works, then it doesn’t. I need it to be 100% reliable. I would pay for a service if the price was low enough

Here is the reliable solution which only includes Google a third-party service.
