What are uses for an old PS2 if I no longer want to play games on it?

rimaz nazeer asks:

I have a really old slim PS2, which I’ve not been using for a long time and I don’t want to play games on it anymore. What are the other things that I could use it for or turn it into?

You can watch movies…
Or you can sell it, collect some money, and buy a PS3! :D

A paper weight. Or you could give it away to a kid who’s family can’t afford such things.

If I were you, I would open it, get every single Goddamn machinery inside it, and create a master piece by sticking them together on a big wall hanging.
Never mind, ’cause thats what I’d do, I did that to my HDD
And it rox!!!

Someone would definitely buy it I’m sure, or take the time find old PS2 titles you didn’t own. Or build a death laser lol

I took the fan out, cut open a USB cable and soldered the red and black wires to the fan, and put it into a wooden laptop stand I made, custom laptop cooling exactly where it is needed. Under load I got the CPU to 45C max and at idle down to 23C!

Ooops, misread, mine was a phat one. Sorry.

Take out the magnets in the optical assembly, they are really powerful, I used two in a project on Instructables.

Take out the USB Female ports, solder them together to make a useful Male to Male for using your phone to browse a usb stick by plugging the data cable into one end of the DIY adapter, and the data stick in the other.

Something a little more geeky you could do with it is set it up as a local server to store all of your music and videos so you can play them on any computer connected. Its quite a bit more difficult than selling it or taking the parts but if your in the mood for a project it can be quite useful.
