How can I protect my eMail from being hacked?

beatriz asks:

Someone hacked my eMail. He already sent more than 60 emails to my friends. This is the second time this person did this. I don’t know who it is. I already changed my password. But I’m afraid. Please help!

Beatriz,

we have had a similar question previously. You can review the answers here: http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/hacking-email/

Since your question describes almost the same scenario, I will basically give you the same answer I gave the other person. First of all, please specify how you check your mail. Is this an online eMail account like Hotmail or do you download your eMail with a program like Outlook?

Changing your password was the right move. You should regularly change your password, whether or not you suspect a hacker.

However, what you describe sounds more like you’re dealing with malware on your computer rather than a hacker. Did you scan your computer for viruses, trojans, worms, and adware? For advice on which security tools to use, check out the answers to the following questions:

Apart from that, if you want to find out when your eMail account was hacked, these articles may be helpful:

Good luck!
