Why can I not print letter combinations treated as digraphs by Adobe when converting a document to PDF with Word 2007?

When I use Word 2007 to convert a document to PDF, any letter combinations that Adobe programs would treat as digraphs won’t print at all in Adobe Reader. My printer is a Brother MFC-240C, non-PostScript. Is there a workaround for this?

    that is weird.

You may try other ways to create a PDF, like Open/Libre Office or a virtual printer (cutePDF, for example)
