I bought a new black ink cartridge. However, my colour has run out and I want to print in black. So I set my printer to print in black, but it still comes up with the error that I need to change my colour cartridge.

My printer is Canon MP470.

Have you tried doing a hard reset of the printer? You hold the reset or stop/reset button until the printer reboots – this should bypass the error code. Most printers use the same bypass for “color out” errors, usually it’s a difference of which button to hold down.

The process was slightly different for my printer, but it follows the same principles.
