What is the best portable video downloader that doesn’t require extra software?

Victor Ong asks:

I need a PORTABLE video downloader that fufills the following:

1. It can be carried on a USB drive, so no extra programs need to be installed (e.g. media sniffer requires winpcap, web downloaders require java): It needs to be stand-alone.

2. It can download from most websites without problems.

3. It can download in many different types of formats

4. It is compatible with different operating systems and DIFFERENT VERSIONS of those operating systems (Windows [xp, vista, 7], OSX [Lion, Snow Leopard, etc], Linux, etc.)

Thanks!

What you are looking for does not exist. If you want a program to be cross-platform (item 4), it will rely on Java which you eliminate from consideration in item 1.

I don’t think the application that you mention is exist, except it is build under java version (it is also impossible). For what i mean is even the same application like firefox has a different of installer in windows, linux, mac. Since all the operating system has a different method of development and implementation.

Google Video Cache Viewer

Freeware – check
Standalone – check
Portable – check
Small Size – check
Buffer a video on any site completely and then download it – check :D

The downloaded format will always be flv though.

As far as I know such programs do not exist, so you could just make a portable version of Firefox with RealDownloader or DownloadHelper installed so you could download videos from almost every website!

Okay, maybe I should say this:

Not “Standalone” completely, but rather something that runs on a common piece of software. Java is pretty standard, so please help me find something that can run on MOST computers.

Also, it should be something I can carry on a USB drive. Not something that is specific to a certain browser.

2. Portable TubeMe (There may be a newer version) (Author: USHASOFT )
3. Portable GrabTube 1.0 (There may be a newer version) (http://www.grabtube.org/)
4. Portable Youtube Downloader HD V2.5 (http://www.youtubedownloaderhd.com/download.html)
5. Portable Free YouTube Video Downloader PRO 1.6 (x64) (http://www.pazera-software.com/download/)
6. Portable YouTube Downloader 1.3 (YouTubePortableDownloader.com)

Use ixquick.com to search for these, or go to http://www.freewarefiles.com
or go to PORTABLEAPPS.COM to see what they have.

These are from my own personal collection, so you may need to update them or maybe the links are no longer there, but you can still find them if you search.
