How can I make a PDF file available on the web?

I have a hardcopy of a manual that I would like to turn into a PDF that will be accessible from the web — like an online PDF. What’s the best way to do that.

Just scan the hard copy and convert it to PDF format,
then upload it to Google Docs ..[you need to have a Google account]
then open the document online and go to the top right corner of the screen, you will find a option to share ,just click it and change the sharing settings to "public on the web"
done it will be online and anyone can access that file

Try Zoho Docs: http://www.zoho.com/docs.  Pretty simple to upload and share your files. You can share the pdf file link with whoever you want. Has a review option too, so people who you've shared it with can give their comments. And since its an online service, you can access or share it from the web.

Hello, you can use PDF-Xchange viewer to convert you manual to PDF.  Then you can use any of the choices given before or you could host the file by using dropbox.  You would have to post the link:

    Dropbox:
     https://www.dropbox.com/

    Sugarsync:

First step is to get the hard copy into a digital version. During this step (scanning the pages) you should be able to select PDF as the desired format.

From there on it depends on how much effort you want to put into it.

Depending on how you scanned it you may have multiple PDF files. Hence you will probably need a PDF tool with some editing capabilities to combine them. You can find some in the Best of Windows Software List with the best free option probably being Nitro PDF.

At first scanned pages are pictures embedded into an PDF. If you want to turn them into searchable text you will need an editor with OCR capabilities or an OCR software e.g. FreeOCR.
    * results may vary depending on the quality of the scanned pages.

Finally, to get the PDF online you could use a service like PDF Archive to host the manual.

Personally I usually work with Acrobat Pro (scan enhancing, OCR) and Acrobat.com (for hosting) so I'm not sure how results will look like with these free tools. Maybe someone else has hands-on experience.
