Is there any password bypassing option for Windows Vista or Windows 7?

Osama Javaid asks:

Recently I was reading an article while stumbling, which was about bypassing Windows password, but someone in the comments mentioned that it only works for Windows XP.

I want to know whether or not there are any solutions for Windows Vista and Windows 7? And are there any other options besides that given in the link for Windows XP? For example using live CD/USB?

Most methods that work for XP work for Vista and 7. The process described in the ehow article depend on a couple of factors: the default Administrator account must be enabled and it does not have a password assigned to it. I have not tried that method with Vista and 7, so it may or may not work.Using a Linux LiveCD will allow access to the drive (just mount it like any other NTFS drive) completely bypassing most Windows security measures (BitLocker will defeat this if it is used on the drive). Or you can simply remove the Windows password by using the Offline NT Password & Registry Editor. Again, if BitLocker is used on that drive, changing this password without using the Windows mechanism will render the data on the drive useless.

All depends what you want to do. If you want to keep the OS, I use a Linux livecd to change the admin password as Bruce says, or I use Linux to access the files and back them up onto a USB hard drive.

Try Hiren’s Boot CD. It has a great collection of software to do this. It is a live CD. You need not install it. Just boot into it and get your job done. MakeUseOf has many articles on Hiren’s Boot CD which you ay check out.

Start in safe mode by rebooting and hitting the F8 key then go to the control panel, in the control panel find user accounts and change the password for your account then reboot.

Do you want to remove the boot password or just have it entered automaticly so Windows goes right to desktop. TweakUI would do later in Windows XP. Not sure for Vista and Windows 7

If you don’t have an administrator account password or a password reset disk, the best way for you to reset Windows password is to get a Windows password recovery tool, like Rekeysoft Windows Password Recovery. It allows you to create a password reset disk CD/DVD and remove lost password with the CD/DVD in 3 simple steps.Step 1: Burn a bootable CD/DVD with the program.
Step 2: Boot your locked computer from CD/DVD.
Step 3: Reset lost Windows password with the burned CD/DVD.
You can get it from http://www.anypasswordrecovery.com
If don’t way to pay, you can get a free Windows Password Unlocker tool like Ophcrack.

Kon-boot works the best, Microsoft also has a program that will do this called DART, but it’s not the easiest thing to get a hold of via legal means. If your computer is 32bit you can use the free version of Kon-boot, if it’s 64bit, you will need to purchase the full version (19 bucks). Also a linux boot disk that was already mentioned works too. Ophcrack isn’t ideal for windows 7, but it works great on xp :D

You might try rebuilding from the recovery disks and see if that puts the password back the way you set it.
If that seems like too much of a hassle, you might want to try the tool here
