How do I use Outlook 2010 to read my Gmail email?

Barbara Nichols asks:

I installed Office Professional 2010 on my laptop and it comes with Outlook, which is what I would like to use instead of Gmail. How do I connect my Gmail email account so I can read it from Outlook?

Barbara,

Please have a good look at the following link:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/17248/set-up-gmail-imap-in-outlook-2010/

You should find everything you need to know there. Don’t forget to enable the setting from your Gmail inbox before trying to add the account in Outlook.

Good luck :)

You can setup Outlook to use either IMAP or POP for Gmail depending on which you prefer.

When you ‘add’ account, in this case your Gmail account it will automatically detect the right settings.
If it dosnt then these are the settings for Gmail using POP mail.

Server for incoming mail: pop.googlemail.com
Server for outgoing mail: smtp.googlemail.com
Incoming server (POP3) is port 995
Outgoing server (SMTP) port 465
Check the Server needs a encrpted connection (SSL)

That works for me.

Just go to google site and have an email account setup guidance from it, or if you don’t want to feel stuck in configuring your outlook, i suggest you can use mozilla thunderbird, it will automatically download the configuration from gmail when you enter your name, username and password. Thanks

First of all enable POP/SMTP in your gmail account settings to receive emails in your outlook. If you are using 2step verification you should generate application specific password otherwise you would not be able to use gmail in outlook.
Thanks

I am trying to set up outlook as a new Application-specific passwords and it gives me the password but is “unavailable” in the listing below. I have tried the various fixes and none of them work.

I have deleted my account in Outllook and set it up a second time and still does not work.

What is next?
