All of my icons show as media player icons and they all try to open with Windows Media Player, how can I fix this?

There is also an extensive list of file associate fixes here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html

Maybe you have associated all your files with Windows Media player accidentally. You have to manually edit the default program for opening your files. To do that, Select and right click on the file you want to open then a menu will pop-out, Select "Open with" then "Choose default program…" then click on "other programs". Check the “Always use the selected program to open this kind of file” below. Select the correct program on the list. (depends on your selected file, example, for picture files like jpg or bmp, choose windows picture viewer, for word documents, choose Microsoft word). Make sure you choose the right program for opening your files. Hope that helps. :)

I always recommend installing a BETTER program for viewing media files. my pesonal favorite has always been VLAN media player. When instaling this, or other, media players, you will be prompted to select the files types that are associated with.

You can try the tool here (http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unassociate-file-types-windows-7-vista/) to remove the association for .lnk files. Unzip the file located here (http://www.winhelponline.com/fileasso/lnkfix_vista.zip) and double-click on the .reg file to import the fix into your registry.

Right click on that file>Open with>Choose program... Now, choose one of the listed programs or browse for it. Don' forget to check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
