Why can’t I open or format my USB thumb drive?

gobi asks:

I can’t format my USB thumb drive and I can’t open it in the My Computer window. When I try to format it the error is simply “Windows as unable to format.”

Hello, one of the tools that provide better results is the following:

You could also try zero formatting your drive first and once finished, do a normal formatting job.  Best way is to visit the flash drive’s manufacturer and see if they provide a zero level formatting tool.  If they do not, you can use the following:

Run the tool from link above, and once finished zero formatting you can do a normal formatting.  Zero level formatting will practically set your flash drive to factory settings.  My advice is, to run the zero levelling format and once finished, run the Hp formatting tool
