When you’re on an Apple Mac and you have downloaded something from the App Store, how do you open your download?

When you "purchase", the item gets downloaded and you are asked for your local-admin password. It is then installed. Once installed, it is in the Applications folder.

When purchased via the Mac App Store, apps are installed in the Applications folder. Icons for purchased apps are automatically placed in the current user's Dock. There is also a purchases tab in the Mac App Store where you can see all of your Mac App Store downloads.

The Apps are automatically placed within the Application folder. You can either access them there directly via the Finder or using the OS X Launchpad (the 'F4 key' feature).
