Why is my new computer not detecting my working external hard drive?

I had a Seagate external hard drive installed on a computer running Windows XP but recently changed to another computer with Windows 7 Pro. Although the Seagate Drive is connected to the computer, it is not recognized and does not appear in my computer. Please advise what I should do to resolve the problem. I have many family photos stored on the drive and do not wish to lose them. Thanks in advance. N. Lomax.

open device manager, locate Seagate Drive, do you see a yellow sign?

    1) Right-click on “My Computer” then Click on “Manage”
    2) Double-click “Disk Management” You will probably see Seagate Drive
    3) Right-click in the left portion of that drive box Seagate Drive
    4) Click “Initialize” and “OK” in the next dialog box. Wait few seconds and it should now say “Online” in the box.
    5) If there is no assigned drive letter, right click on the big space of your Seagate hard drive then choose Assign drive letter or Change Driver Letter and Path
