Why does my Macbook stop charging on 99%?

Melwin Nelapati asks:

I recently got a new Macbook. It is about 2 weeks old. I’ve installed a few apps on it. All commercial or recommended by MakeUseOf.
I leave my power plug in almost all the time. At the moment it says the battery is 99% charged and the light on the plug is green. It has been like this for a few days.
Is this normal? If not what should I do?

Hi Melwin,

The thing about Apple’s charging mechanism is that it will stop charging the battery once it reaches 100%. The battery will slowly discharge to 95% and that’s when the charging mechanism kicks in again. This is to preserve the battery’s life. And quite normal.

Well, what’s 1% anyway? lol I’m sure it’s fine. If not, I’m sure you have a nice shiny warranty you can use.

Those measurements aren’t accurate anyway, so I wouldn’t worry. Did it ever say 100%?
