Can I use a MacBook Air Superdrive with another Mac?

I’d like to use my mom’s Superdrive on my MacBook Pro so that I can more easily multitask. Is this possible without opening it up and changing any of the wires, hardware, etc.?

I found a software trick to use it on any mac (actually, Apple engineers built a flag into the driver that can be activated to make it work on any mac). I documented it here: http://www.hardturm.ch/luz/2011/10/how-to-make-the-macbook-air-superdrive-work-with-any-mac/

Based on what I can find it is not possible without doing some pretty serious hacking. This article http://tnkgrl.wordpress.com/2008/06/24/macbook-air-superdrive-for-all/ will tell you how to do, it but it does involve some soldering. That seems to be the only way at this point.
