Gary Young asks:
I have a bright object against a black background. It’s moving and I want to single it out, enlarge it and keep it centered in the frame (track it). I am using iMovie. Anyone have any suggestions? I am in the market for additional software so this may also be a good time for that.

I doubt you can do anything like that within iMovie – at least I’m not aware of any object tracking method or plugin for iMovie.
I think you will have to switch to more advanced tools like Avid Studio or Final Cut Pro.
But I’ll leave the definite answer to any professional out there.
perhaps you need some combination of tools
Syntheyes

Adobe After effects
I think “motion” has some basic tracking abilities…and so does After Effects, not sure.
or you could try…
“Mocha”,Syntheyes,PFTrack,or any other commercial tracker.
even open source software Blender has tracking abilities built into the latest versions//
