Are there any legitimate ways to make money from home using the internet?

My wife has just been put on “bedrest” (for lack of better term..) because of pregnancy complications. She is very concerned with no longer bringing any money into our home.
I’ve heard of various “work from home” sites/services but most seem like a scam.

Are there any legitimate ways to get a job or at least make money using the internet?

There are certainly legitimate ways to make money online - affiliate marketing, blogging, freelancing... the options are literally limitless. A simple web research will help you avoid scams and ripoffs that lurk on the Internet.

If she has any expert or computer skills, freelancer is the best option. I personally use odesk.com to both hire and get work, and I've had thousands of dollars flowing through their system for a while now. If she has no expert knowledge then it's hard as she'll be competing again cheap indian and filipino workers for the same zero-knowledge needed jobs.

Stay away from anything that claims to be work at home, and give up on affiliate/blogging plans - that would take years to earn even a meagre wage.

Has your wife approached her company about working from home while she's on pregnancy leave? If she has a desk job at the office, she could probably work from home. It would save the company money by not having to hire anyone else do her work temporarily, as well as show that she can work from home with no loss of productivity, thus making the case for her to work from home all the time, even after her pregnancy leave.

    Hi Dustin,

The "Work from home" has been ravaged by scams and it's now pretty hard to find any legitimate methods of doing so.

    1.) Taking Surveys
This method can take some time but depending on how much time you have to offer, could almost fully compensate for a full time job. The list of survey sites changes so often, I'm afraid to recommend one you either might not like or is simply a scam. I would certainly combine a number of survey sites to maximize my income.

    2.) Freelancing
If you have a skill that can be implemented online, you may consider joining a freelance website. At these websites, people will search for someone with a skill-set similar to what is needed to complete a certain task and hire them. Usually the work is done online and payment is managed by the freelance website.

    3.) Domain Parking

    4.) Referrals and Back-Linking
Sites such as ShareCash and LinkBucks are pretty much advertisement-heavy alternatives to rapidshare and megaupload. You're essentially uploading a file or creating a "shortened link" to redirect to the referal site so that all the downloaders will see their ads.
    5.) Selling on eBay
