If I leave my PC online and ON, for what good purposes can it be used over the internet remotely by me or somebody else? Except for seeding torrents….

If you don't have a clear need to do it, don't. Unless you like high electricity bills and being vulnerable to attacks, this isn't very wise.

    hello ,
well, first of all what you can do is -

enabled with help of apps and clients like - TeamViewer , LogMeIn Hamachi , Tonido ,
    OpenVPN , GBridge .

    >Set up your own SSH Tunnel for safe internet access from any where .
check this good tutorial on how to do this . http://lifehacker.com/205090/geek-to-live--set-up-a-personal-home-ssh-server

    >create your own P2P community , only sharing files between and among users who you trust and want to share with using GigaTribe  http://www.gigatribe.com/en/home
