How can I learn Photoshop CS6?

?ÁV? ??? asks:

I want to learn Photoshop CS6 completely from basic to advanced step by step. I tried many times in past, but after 1-2 days I stopped it and I lost patience because I was not getting proper guidance and tutorials. I got frustrated and stopped it.

But now I again want to learn Photoshop because it’s very useful and I need to learn this. So I want advice from you on how I should start. Tell some good websites for good tutorials in easy language, video tutorials will be of much help to me.

I don’t even know the names of tools and their uses. Please tell me how to start from basic and then proceed to advanced level. Any help in this regard will be much appreciated. I am a complete newbie in Photoshop,so think according to me and help me.

I have latest Photoshop CS6 extended and Photoshop 7.0 version installed on my Windows 7 laptop.

There are guides for starting from scratch if you scroll down. Start using “Part 1″ and work your way forward.

Check on lynda. They have tutorials on a whole lot of software from beginner stuff to highly advanced. When you hit the Photoshop stuff here, you may need to do some of them from previous versions (since they still apply to the later ones and have not been updated since the methods have not changed). There are also free tutorials at Photoshopstar which can help start you out. They begin with setting up Photoshop, learning the interface (2 parts) and toolbar (3 parts), channels, color and selections (2 parts).

Learning from a video leads you to a more vivid understanding of the topic than reading a text about it.The following link would solve your problem to a certain extent. As soon as i find a more comprehensive package suited to your needs,i will try to re-post the link.

Check out PSDtuts. They have a lot of beginner tutorials and I found that’s the best way to learn photoshop, to just start doing things. They also have a “basics” section that is geared towards beginners: http://psd.tutsplus.com/tag/basix/

My suggestion would be to start from the Makeuseof guide, and then checking out offerings from lynda.com. I have found this site to have the most knowledgeable tutorials regarding any Adobe software. It is not free, but if you know how to, you can get most of these courses for free.

Start with Photoshop 7. Go Step wise,
Familiarise yourself with the Toolbox. As a professional I only use Rectangular Marquee tool (short cut M) most of the times. 90+ % of time I either use Rectangular marquee tool, Move, Polygonal Lasso tool. Just ignore all other tools in the toolbox, as you can master them later. Once you master these tools, you can look at the concept of layers, blending modes with different layers etc. By the time you understand how to use these two, you are already an intermediate level user for Photoshop.

Next play with “Image” Adjustments, try changing a photos color, saturation, hue, brightness, contrast, levels, etc to familiarise with photo manipulation techniques.

I rarely use Filters as well. You can also play with them and try use different filters to achieve advanced effects. There are lot of tutorials out there to help you master these filters. The problem with the beginners is they jump to the filters and get struck there. Trust me, keep it to the last. Hope this helps..

We over quite a few Photoshop-related manuals over at:

MakeUseOf.com/pages/download

Start at Part 1 and work your way forward. All are written in such a way that you can follow instructions in Photoshop itself and learn as you go along.

Seriously, though, if you want to learn Photoshop the real trick is in experimenting. I picked up what I know working for newspaper and making parody images in college.
