Should LAN ports work after I connect my TP-link wirelessly to my master router?

ghaith elqasem asks:

I have ZXV10 W300 modem/router connected to ADSL and in order to increase my wireless coverage, I connected a TP-LINK WR740N v3 wireless router to that. In the TP-link I used WDS and I see the status as run.

When I connect my PC Ethernet to the TP-link, it does not show as connected to the internet.

Any idea why this happens?

Have you disabled NAT on your TP-LINK? You only want NAT running on your border router.

ghaith elqasem

yes nat is disabled

First of all make sure the DHCP server is disabled on the TP-Link. When using WDS this should come from the primary router.

When you connect your PC to the ethernet port do you actually get an IP from your ZXV10 or will it default to a link local address (169.xxx.xxx.xxx)?

I also want to mention that there might be an incompatibility between the two devices. WDS functionality is often limited to devices from the same vendor.

the Ethernet interface has ip 169.254.57.211
so i guess you are right in the limitation of WDS functionality .

Why can not I access the Internet after connecting the TP-LINK router to my modem

Method 2 Change the WAN Connection Type to Dynamic IP.

first see whether the IP address that you are getting is in same range of your router LAN network. Because most of the wireless router will have DHCP enabled by default.

Or else you have to make sue that your wireless WAN link has IP from router DHCP which has internet access, this way you can use DHCP which is inbuilt in wireless router

Yes LAN ports with still work. You will just have an extra wireless connection.
