Why does iTunes freeze on my computer?

Paula asks:

Every time I try to load iTunes on my computer (an HP) it freezes and I have to manually shut down the computer. What’s the fix?

Perhaps you plugged another device to sync and after un-plugging itunes still think that the device is plugged. Also perhaps you have corrupted playlists or files in itunes.

Apple should have used Real Player. iTunes is more cluncky than an MS App.
