Is there a track changes feature available when editing documents in Ubuntu?

Geoff Harris asks:

I am a new Ubuntu user who does a lot of document editing. I miss the Windows feature where my corrections are recorded for someone to accept or reject. I also miss auto-correct spelling. Can these be included in Ubuntu for emails and documents? What software allows it? Thanks.

Since you did not specify what version of Ubuntu you are using, I am simply assuming 12.04 LTS.

The default email client (Thunderbird) has spell-checking built-in and turned on by default. You can verify this by going to Edit -> Preferences, selecting the Composition section, then the Spelling tab. The ‘Enable spell checking as you type’ option should be checked. The ‘Check spelling before sending’ is not.

Your default word processor will be LibreOffice Writer. The icons directly below the Tools and Window menu items are for Spelling and Grammar to initiate a check and AutoCorrect Spelling. The autocorrect option is on by default. The AutoSpell options can be adjusted throught Tools-> AutoCorrect Options….

The default is also to show changes as seen in the Edit -> Changes menu. To alter how changes are viewed in the document, you can go to Tools -> Options. In the left-hand column, select LibreOffice Writer -> Changes and select your options in the right-hand column.
