Why is my iPhone taging places I drive near in “My Places?”

Dan Moses asks:

Hello, recently I noticed on “My Places” option is showing recent history of locations that I never have been to but drove past on the freeway. The map is making it seem like I go or search for these random places like hotels and night clubs. But I never did. It seems when I open my maps while driving, it marks places around me automatically and places them in my recent searches. Is this an error? Are my maps on iPhone set to automatically find certain places and place them in “My Places” search history?

Switch off your location services in iPhone (basically GPS).

If you search for a place it sometimes remembers those places too. This feature wouldn’t be in iPhone settings it would be something Google does.

Maybe it’s just assuming you were there, the GPS satellites are 12550 miles up you know!

Just turn off share-location feature.
