I am running OS 10.6.8 on my iMac and I have an external 1TB hard drive with 4 partitions. What is the easiest way to install Windows XP on one of these partitions so my iMac can run Windows XP?

Hello, do you want to do it as a dual boot or using a virtual machine?  There is usually the option of using Boot Camp but in your case it is not doable because as far as I understand, boot camp does not run in external drives.

If you want to run a virtual machine with mac as the host, you could try using paralles:

For dual booting, you could try the following options:

A free alternative to Parallels (still requires a valid Windows license) is VirtualBox:

These virtualization options will allow you to run Windows software at the same time as Mac OS X, but you'll have a performance hit since you'll be sharing resources (CPU and RAM) with the Mac OS.
