I have downloaded drivers for a Canon MP490 multifunctional from Canon Europe in tarball form, but cannot install them/it via command line terminal in any version of Linux e.g. Ubuntu 10.10, openSuse 11.3. Would anyone clarify the procedure please?

" error occured while loading the archive"

The problem has been resolved. It was merely that I have insufficient practice with the command line to install drivers and the like from compressed archives. The Canon instructions are excellent although It was some time before I hit on them inside the archive.
