How do you install Chrome extensions offline on a Chromebook?

I am using a Chromebook in my science class and was wondering how you would be able to install the extensions offline since I can’t install them from the web store. I know that you can drag the extensions on the extensions page, but can’t seem to do that on the Chromebook. Is there any way? Thanks!

You can use the download crx files on older versions of chrome to install but Chrome version 21 (latest versions) do not allow extensions outside web store easily. This is done considering user security. However, there could be some setting to do disable that security check.
