How to increase the number of active file downloads in Firefox?
Question by Jack /

I am currently downloading a lot of files from of the internet, but I can only manage to get 6 active downloads happening at once.

If I am downloading more than 6 files at any one time, Firefox does not present to me the Open or Save As dialog box.

How do I make it so I can download more files at one?

Brilliant ... for anyone who is a newbie like me on the address bar in firefox simply type about:config it will then say "there may be dragons" its fine to enter ! then scroll down to find the line which has network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server click on 6 and then a box comes up to change it ... just type in 10 and close the window

Thanks, I knew something in about:config had to be changed, didn't know what though.

I am not sure if that will solve it, but you may try raising the max. number of persistent connections Firefox can make, the default is at 6.

    Go to

    1. about:config
    2. navigate to: network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server
    3. change the value to a higher number (don't go above 10 though)

Also check out this article about that setting
