If I buy a retail cross-platform PC game reliant on Steam will it work on Mac?

David Hallengren asks:

I’m trying to get the Gods and Kings expansion for Civ 5 on Steam (my Civ 5 copy is on Steam, not the Mac App Store) and I’m having difficulty checking out as I have an APO address. I can’t find a Mac retail copy of the expansion in stores or online, but Windows copies are abundant. If I bought a retail version for Windows and then registered it on Steam, could I then download it for my Mac?

Thanks!

I can confirm that a purchase through Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sid-Meiers-Civilization-Kings-Download/dp/B0085O6NG8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1342447940&sr=8-2&keywords=amazon+gods+and+kings

Will provide you with the Steamplay (PC & Mac) version, despite the website only listing Windows as the platform.

Green Man Gaming also offers Steamplay support too: http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/strategy/sid-meiers-civilization-v-gods-kings/

Green Man Games often has great discounts so keep your eyes open!
