Christian Velasquez asks:
How can I identify and copy font(s) from images?
I’ve looked at What the Font, but it requires web access. I move around a lot, and normally don’t have web access so it’s a no go.
I use Gimp 2.8, Photoshop CS6, and Paint.NET
Will try additional software/utilities if necessary

July 7, 2012Perhaps the Character Panel in Photoshop can help you to identify The Font.

Right click on the layer to copy the layer style?
Could you perhaps explain how exactly this could be used to *identify* a rendered font? It’s not like we have a photoshop file with the font right there all ready to just click on and start editing…
July 7, 2012I am sure there are difficulties if not equipped with the right software, if the image is still available in layers, you select the layer with the text
photoshop go to windows>character

If it’s been merged into one layer, you’re going to have to guess based on trial and error.

July 7, 2012If you have an iPhone, iPod touch and iPad you can download a ‘WhatTheFont’ app for identifying fonts offline.
Details here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-identify-font-used-in-image-photo-or-web-page/
What made you think the app works offline? It doesn’t.
July 7, 2012I was referring to his computer being off-line.

July 7, 2012For GIMP you should color select the text and copy paste… paste it on a smaller transparent work space then select the letters you want and then align them . Copy and paste the word back and affix.
What The Font http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ can help you.

July 7, 2012First option is to use whatthefont
http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
if whatthefont can not detect the font then, it will at least tell you the fonts closest to the font, look for the category of those fonts and then do mannual work to match character as capital A, R, Q and you will get the font, then download that font and you are good to go.

July 7, 2012Given that identifying a font would require access to a large database of fonts, you would need a web connection. Have you thought about getting a mobile data connection?
