Brian Otten asks:
My HP TouchPad had a charging cable issue a few days ago and drained completely. I have replaced the cable and charger. Now the TouchPad appeared to be charged, but it stays on with a blank screen that has battery symbol with a question mark in the middle. I can’t do anything at this point other than restart it, which brings me back to the same point after it restarts.
If I have the charger plugged into the tablet it will come up with a blank screen and he Home button flashes.
What’s going on, and how do I fix it?

July 11, 2012Try restarting the table. Press and hold the power button. While still holding the power button, press the Center button (about 15 seconds).
Thanks for the replies.
Bruce, is the Center button your refer to the Home button at the bottom when in Portrait mode?
If it is, then that would be the standard hard reset. I have done that many times, which I described before.
The Power button has no effect at this point, unless I combine it with the Home button, and then it does a hard reset, and will then display the ? symbol within a battery logo in the middle of screen.
If I have the charger plugged in, then it will go off until battery is fully charged, but then will come on again and stay on again until the battery runs out. The Home Button will flash/cycle when being charged.
I tried what Vipul mentioned but no go, no change.
It has been less than 11 months since I bought it new at the fire sale. Does HP warranty it through 12 months.

July 12, 2012Brian, HP warranty should at least 1 years. I think, the problem of your device is not on your battery or charger but in the circuit of your device. To ensure it, i suggest you bring it to HP service center, ask to check the problem. Usually if there is something needs to replace, they will contact you first, and give some quotation. Thank you

July 12, 2012Almost every tablet and smartphone nowadays has some kind of recovery mode. [a href="http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-HP-Consumer-Products-and/HP-Touchpad-with-battery-question-mark/td-p/1401135">The HP TouchPad is no different. In its recovery mode you can access the HP WebOS Doctor, which supposedly can fix this issue. It more or less does this by restoring the device to its factory fresh specs.
I spotted the following on the HP TouchPad forum website:

Hold the Power button to attempt to turn the TP off.
When the TP is off, press and hold the power and volume up buttons.
The TP should power on and display the USB trident symbol.
At that point you’re in USB mode and should be able to use webOS Doctor 3.0.5 I suggest using WebOS Doctor to reset the TP to its delivered condition
The forum with the greatest amount of resources for the HP Touchpad is the HP WebOS Forum. I highly recommend joining that forum.
This nicely written and illustrated standard Touchpad troubleshooting tutorial is at the WebOS forum.”

July 13, 2012Call HP support. The device is still under warranty (HP warranties are always 1yr or more) but even it it weren’t they would help you to diagnose the problem.
That’s what I did a few days ago and they couldnt fix it through the online chat. So it was under warranty, and they sent a box and free UPS shipping label the very next day and I sent it off yesterday. Wish I knew what might have caused it, so I can avoid it in the future.
Thanks for all the replies everyone.

August 3, 2012I had the same issue, it is a hardware failure. I have to sent my touchpad in. You most likily had CM9 installed in it. It’s fine. I sent mine in with CM9 before it died. Got a replacement no charge. From Canada
Thanks for the replies. No, I did not have CM9 installed. Just basic default. HP sent me a new one under warranty, and it has worked fine so far.
The HP return process was quick and easy.
