How to set up a Microsoft student email account in Mail on Mac OS?

yuehwen cheng asks:

I have a student email account that I want to configure on Mail (Mac OS), but not know details for setting up.

I’ve tried to use Hotmail, Live, msn.com as mail server and none of them work. It would be so much more convenient if I had other accessing options for that account without web portal.

Browser: Chrome 19

As long as your email address ends in hotmail.com, msn.com, or live.com, you can use the instructions here (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/hotmail/send-receive-email-from-mail-client) to configure any POP3 email client to access your email. Make sure you understand the consequences of some of your client settings. If it is set to delete messages from the server when your client downloads them, they will not be available through the web interface later. If you intend to continue to use the web interface when you don’t have access to your desktop client, make sure you turn this option off.

Hi! My school also uses Hotmail for our school mail. Not sure how your email address is set up, but the format of ours is: n*****@mail.missouri.edu (I attend the University of Missouri). It’s important to have the main address, since our emails also still work with redirects (like n*****@mizzou.edu).

When you open up Mail, go to Preferences, then Accounts. Next, you’ll enter your name, the email address and your email address password. Mail should then search for your account and set up an account. The account type should be an “Exchange 2007.” After that, hit Continue and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps!
