How do I update the software on my Samsung Galaxy S2?

After clicking the “check for updates” option in settings on my Samsung Galaxy S2, all I come up with is a “cannot connect to server” response. Wi-Fi is connected so I don’t see what is wrong so how do i go about updating? I’m still running version 2.3.3

Check your internet connectivity of your phone and then try it out.

How do I disable the update function on my Samsung2. Latest update (done manually) has screwed up my phone which used to work before then. E-mail syncs are incomplete and calendar does not keep the entries once saved after a phone switch off.

If you enable Wi-Fi only update option, then it might not be able update automatically.

Thanks. However is it possible to revert to the earlier version which worked a lot better?

The below link shows how to do it -

      http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-galaxy-s-ii-epic-4g-touch/192158-guide-how-rollback-gingerbread-el29.html

But the steps are risky,so exercise caution.

Sounds a bit too complicated and risky for me but thanks for your help.

Try updating to newer version of kies and if it still persists, then go to tools -->Troubleshoot connection error. Then click on Troubleshoot connection error.

if you want to upgrade to the new android ICS official firmware...

XXLPQ - this is the official Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy S2

and to do this you need a laptop obviously and Kies:

this site gives you complete details with instructions and photos as well...
    hope this helps

Yes, you can use Samsung Kies to update your phone. Just download, install, plug in your S2 and follow the instructions.
    There's a guide for this at http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/09/04/how-to-upgrade-samsung-galaxy-s2-firmware-with-samsung-kies/

You need to use the desktop app Kies to update to ICS. Here is the link for the program: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CGwQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.samsung.com%2Fus%2Fkies%2F&ei=o3TVT_fqHIPc9ATk443XAw&usg=AFQjCNHazetOF2tlvHsxw4ptEdLDgjmDtA&sig2=zTJn3sip4PGvuFBasJJKCg

Connect the phone to the computer after you install the software, then follow the instructions. Make sure your battery is charged more than 50%.
