How to tether internet from a sim card without using mobile phone or tablet? Which portable devices allow to do so for GSM sim? If so , please specify how you configure the internet first time on the device through sim card? If convenient , please provide link for devices on www.ebay.in.

You need either a router or a modem with a GSM module or a so-called MiFi device.

Huawei has a range of products

Setup differs from device to device but for a MiFi device it's usually just a matter of putting a SIM-card with no/disabled PIN into it and then connecting your device to a pre-existing wireless network. The name and password is usually on a label at the inside of the battery cap.

For the router like devices setup is pretty much the same like for any other internet router. You connect (at best wired) to the router, open it's setup page in the browser using the default ip stated in the manual and follow the outlined steps.

For simple USB modems you usually just have to plug them in, then a virtual CD drive will appear with the driver on it which you have to install. When it's done you will find a "dashboard" software in your Start menu which you have to open, input the SIM's pin (if activated) and then press the connect button.

Hello. Thats a huge effort from you! Thank you very much. Appending a subquestion : Please tell that for MiFi devices , the settings which are required for first time activating on mobile phone ( install settings through sms received from mobile operator for Net activation ) have not to be done?

Whatever your provider requires you to do to activate the SIM and/or internet still has to be done. This has nothing to do with the device you will be using the SIM with.

Some MiFi devices do have a web interface where you can configure advanced settings like the WiFi itself, APN and data settings your provider requires, etc.

So before going out and buying one you should confirm whether the device allows you to manually configure such and/or if your provider actually supports using such devices.

Thanks! for your time and effort here! Is mobile operator an actual compatibility? or would the device use net as do mobile phones use sim for internet?
