How do I scan an SSD for bad sectors and overall health?

Hi everybody,

I want to scan a SSD drive for overall health. Can I use HD Tune (on Hiren’s Boot USB) without damaging the SSD? If not, what program do you suggest for this task?

Thanks :)

In terms of drive health, any SMART monitor will do or you may be able to get a specialised tool from the drive manufacturer. There is no need to search for bad sectors as this is handled by the drive itself.

You can try the trial version of HD Sentinel from here:
    http://www.hdsentinel.com
That will tell you the state of your SSD.

Basically any decent SMART tool will do.

Intel for example offer their own tool

you can use HD Tunes for this purpose, you can try

your SSD drive manufacturer should give you SSD toolbox to do what you want.

i think SSDs are supposed to reallocate bad sectors, the drive controller will take care of bad sectors, you can try CHKDSK on SSD but use it to repair system files not to fix bad sectors.
