How do I consolidate my eBook collections into a single, cross-platform reader?

Pete Nolan asks:

I have eBook readers on Windows XP & 7 (Kindle for PC and Nook for PC), Linux Ubuntu (FBReader & Calibre) and on iOS I have iBooks, Google Play Books, Kindle, Nook and Logos & Olive Tree Bible Software Readers.

I am trying to figure out how to collect up all my books into 1 reader that allows cross platform reading. The cloud helps when picking up where I left off from another device. Each place I purchase books from likes to hide their files nested in their own readers software. How do I find the books and how do I collect them up into 1 location and 1 reader?

I have Calibre on my Linux PC and am looking at installing it on my Windows PC too which will allow me to convert files. I am leaning toward the Kindle, Nook or FBReader readers over the one that comes with Calibre based on the user interface and the versatility of the platforms.

Well, you’re going to need to convert them all to ePub format. Just look up, “how to convert kindle books to epub” and replace ‘kindle’ with all of the other sources. Calibre should help too with a lot of the conversion. Honestly, it’s going to take hours… I feel your pain.
