How do I configure Hotmail inside Gmail? Can I perhaps have my Hotmail emails categorized under a specific Gmail label?

You can either just forward your mail and use GMAIL options to "SEND AS" the hotmail account, or you can get GMAIL to fetch your mail by going to your options and IMPORTING your hotmail account.

Go to your Hotmail and open the Setting. In Manage Your Account setting , click on Mail Transfer option and select the Forward your mail to another email account option. If you want to keep a copy of forwarded messages in your inbox you can tick that option too. Otherwise leave blank and save. That's it.

Now back to your Gmail, go to setting and select 'filter'. Create a new filter and type your hotmail address as sender. Click 'apply'. On the new windows go to 'apply label' and create a new one, name it Hotmail or any other name and click on 'create'. You can add other filter if you want to.
Now in you inbox page you will be able to see your new label where all emails from Hotmail will be automatically grouped.

    Hope this will help you

Your question seems to be a bit unclear. You can sync your hotmail account to your gmail. So all mails sent to your hotmail accounts redirects/is forwarded to your gmail. And of course you can label your emails.

You can forward your Hotmail to your gmail. Just go in your settings and look for the forwarding email

You need to explain what you are trying to achieve more clearly.

You can set Gmail to fetch mail from your hotmail account and apply an identifying label to tell you that's where it came from - if that's what you mean.
