How can I stop Internet Explorer from trying to open via Windows Media Player?

IN IE9 go to internet options then program then click on manage add-on then find windows media player and right click on status to choose disable.

if this is not the case then you might have file association problem then try the following on windows 7

it may be drastic but you can also disable IE. in programs and features go to turn windows features on or off, locate internet explorer, and uncheck the box
