How can I split an Outlook PST on a yearly basis?

I am using Outlook 2010 and my PST size is 8 GB . I want to divide my PST as yearly basis. How can i split without any data loss?

    Alternatively, you can convert big-sized PST files to a more compact format using an Outlook converter. I use Total Outlook Converter http://www.coolutils.com/TotalOutlookConverter and I like it because it converts PST files to a variety of formats and applies a variety of editing options to output files

    From the top of my head the easiest option is going to be Outlooks archive function.

    Select to manually archive emails, then set a date and the pst file name. Start with the oldest date/year and for each following year select a new archive PST.
