Bharath Ap asks:
I have bought a brand new Sony Bravia KDL-32EX650. The problem is that it does not recognize MKV video files. I’m able play AVI and MP4 formats, but not MKV videos. Can anyone help?

June 26, 2012Use http://www.freemake.com/free_video_converter/ to convert it to a format that is recognized.
first try converting your .mkv files to Apple format. you can do this with MKV Video Converter for Mac (file>export) . then you can move all your files to HDTV for Sony Camcorder. For iTunes or QT, you should select an iTunes-friendly output format, such as MOV, MP4 or M4V

June 26, 2012There really isn’t any TV that I know if that would recognize anything more than avi , mpg, and mp4 format movies. Use a converter software like Quick Media Converter, Freemake like suggested, or any other you are familiar with to change the format to avi or mp4. There are different settings you can choose from in the converter software, so make sure you choose high quality, though it will make the file larger.
Actually my new Panasonic ST and my 2 year old Samsung panasonic plasma screens both play mkv. As do many cheap tv’s I’ve used in hotels.
Next time try not to buy a Sony. Go for Samsung/Panasonic for plasma and LG/Samsung for LED/LCD.

June 27, 2012You might want to convert the videos to a format that your tv supports.
Search around the net for good free video encoders.

June 27, 2012Hello, there are some brands/models that can play MKV out of the box. You would have to check the manual for your TV if this is so with yours. If you just bought the TV, sometimes it shows the formats in the box.
According to the specs for your TV, these are the formats compatible with it:
MPEG1 / MPEG2PS / MPEG2TS / AVCHD / MP4Part10 / MP4Part2 / WMV / MP3 / WMA / LPCM / JPEG
Also this TV supports the following formats for USB:
FAT16, FAT32 and exFAT
The following link will show you the technical specs for your TV:
http://www.sony.lv/product/tv-80-32-lcd/kdl-32ex650/tab/technicalspecs#tab
Only solution you have is to convert any MKV file to other formats like AVI, MP4, etc by using some of the software recommended before or you could use format factory:

June 27, 2012Convert it with Any Video Converter (free on filehippo.com)
or
Play it on your Laptop and connect your TV with the HDMI cable.
You cannot (YET) directly play an MKV video in your TV.
Maybe technology will boom in this field, as its highly required.
Any Video Converted MP4 works in Sony Bravia for small clip. For full movie, video works but audio doesn’t work.

August 17, 2012yea i have this same tv. i use it for my computer monitor. i have 690 1080p and 720p MKV videos……. they all work. if you have your computer hooked up to it, there should be no problem viewing mkv files.

August 27, 2012Simple. Bravia won’t support .MKV format. Very disappointing!!!
you can use serviio from http://www.serviio.org to install on your PC and then view all the formats on your TV. In this way whatever your PC can support you view them on your TV!!. Really surprising that Sony does not support .mkv files. I bought the same model as you have bought. But some Sony LCD models support mkv. it means they have the software but do not want to use it!!!

October 18, 2012There are loads ofhp flash drives that are compatable with the bravia i use a 8gb flash it works perfect , there is no way to directly view certain files on your bravia so you do have to convert most items so it will work , you can watch from your laptop and a vga to vga female cable with a audio jack and just watch your vids that way. You can go into pc channel by connecting your laptop then disconnect your laptop and just leave the audio jack in it will become a stereo works with iphone and most phones with a jck port great for party volume and sounds great ,if you need any help with the bravia or iphone and tethering to the bravia check out http://dillysano-mymakemoneydiary.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/sony-bravia-wont-play-my-iphone-vids.html
