How can I fix “Error 19” when I try to use my optical drive?

When I try to use my Sony DRU-720 optical drive I get “Error 19 Couldn’t open” saying the registry is messed up and etc. I tried a few registry cleaners but they did not work and I’d prefer not to have edit my registry manually. What can I do.

I think you need to do the old removal of Upper and Lower FIlters. See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 and my site http://www.cd-dvd-troubleshooter.com/.

Error 19 means that Windows cannot start a device. See http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbyerrormessage/a/code-19-error.htm for troublehooting advice.

    1) go device manager
    2) locate the Sony DRU-720 optical drive driver
    3) right click on it and choose uninstall (do not delete)
    4) reboot so windows will install the driver
