One of my friend called me to help him install Windows 7 on his HP Pavilion Elite desktop PC. He had Windows 8 Consumer Preview and wanted to revert to his original Windows 7.
At the end of the install we discovered that a lot of drivers were not installed (graphic and network). His DVD recovery disk only offers one option: clean install of the OS with a complete wipe of the HDD. He has more than 1TB of data and we can’t just use that option.
Is there any way we could just extract drivers from the recovery disk? Without having to go to the internet and download them from HP?
Thanks for your answers.

November 9, 2012Usually when you install the drivers in a HP computer, the setup extracts the setup files in C directory.. If you haven’t deleted your files from C directory, you can find them there. Also if you don’t have the drivers, you can use a tool like Driver Reviver (I would suggest it, since it download the lasted versions of the drivers)

November 9, 2012download and install 7zip
1) navigate to your 7dvd and browse to sources folder and double click install.wim
2) open install.win you will see like 13 folders ,open folder 1
3) Open Windows Folder and then open system32 folder and browse for Drivers and Driverstore
4) extract these two folders to your desktop and open driverstore folder
5) rename all the files in folder en-US (file ends in .inf_loc to rename these to .inf)
6) open device manager and install your missing driver by selecting update driver and select browse my computer ,then select the driverstore folder
