How can I download webpage text without ads and other data?

Atmakuri Koteswara Rao asks:

Whenever I tried to download web page text, the entire data of the sheet, including site’s affiliated data, advertisements, other links data, etc. were being downloaded. This is causing inconvenience in forwarding the actual text to my friends by email. So, I require the stipulated procedure to overcome this problem.

There’s no universal answer to this. The best thing is to send your friend a LINK to the page, so they can see exactly what you see, as the page designer intended.

You can also highlight the text that you want to send them, copy it and paste it into an email. This usually works, but not always, for a variety of reasons.

Finally, you can use a browser extension such as “Print Selection” (for Chrome) which allows you to specify which parts of the page you want to print, then “Print” it to a PDF (Chrome allows this natively, with other browsers you’d need a PDF maker) and you could then send your friends a nice, tidy PDF of the page.

Hello, the simplest shortcut for you without using any third party app would be for you to use copy/paste. Highlight the text you want to get, click on ctrl + c keys at same time. Then navigate to where you want to paste the text and click on ctrl + v keys at same time. You would have to do this several times to bypass ads if needed.

I guess you could send a link or save the webpage as .htm and then send it as an attachment.

Hi Atmakuri,

I see you are using Firefox. Nice!
Try Readability add-on : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/readability/
It turns any web page into a clean and comfortable reading view (as they say).

it can be done
you need two addon
first adblock it will disable all the ads on the webpage
and other is pendule (i don’t know if it is for Firefox or not but it is in chrome)
you can disable other things with it like images ,style sheet, etc(simply you can custom the page as you want) it also has and option for only text
and then just save it

I use an app called Clearly for exactly that sort of thing. You navigate to whatever web site you want and then click the Clearly button This removes all ads an just leaves you with the text from the site. You can print this or email it or whatever else you want to do. When I want to print it I can use CutePDF Writer and can save it as a PDF. Hope this helps.

Download Clearly for firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clearly/

after downloading go to the webpage you want to download and then click on clearly addon icon, it will remove all other data except the main content. then just print or save it as Pdf or HTML.

clearly is also available for chrome.

Register with Pocket, then install the apps and/or browser extensions.

The apps allow you to email the complete article view, and the browser view you can send as you’ve been doing so far.

Why don’t you use services like PrintFriendly? http://www.printfriendly.com/ It can automatically extract the main data of the site you wish to mail. Instead of printing you can save as pdf or even mail it.

Though you can do it using the things our friends mentioned, it is highly suggested that you send the link to your friend so they can see the content the way it should be, those ads serve to pay the provider of the content who given it for you for Free while you don’t click them there is ads that pay per view and by extracting and storing content you don’t own a license on you break Copyrigiht rules and you may have problems with the owner, so please keep yourself safe and keep the content on the Internet for free, imagine if Makeuseof was paid so they can earn money and show you something without ads there would be a majority who could never see what those writers do in the website as they could not pay online ever .

As you are using Firefox, download and instal the Print Edit add-on, then when you want to save or print a page click on the “Print Preview” option – this will remove the extraneous material, and let you see what you will get.

Then click on “Print”, and in the dialogue box select either your printer or “Create Pdf” from the drop-down menu (I use Nitro Reader 2 as my default Pdf program, it should work with others). Choose where to save the document if creating a Pdf then click on create – all done.
