How can I convert an .img file to an editable movie format for my MacBookPro?

I received an .img video for a family member’s funeral from my sister who is in Turkey. She sent it via YouSendIt and I was able to make a DVD with Desk Utility. BUT I need to make a couple of edits, and logistically it’s not possible for her to do it in time for the service.

I have a MacBookPro OS 10.7.5. Am familiar with imovie myself. Is it possible to save as some other editable format that I could work with on my computer? I just need to edit information in one frame…but it’s important.

Paste the photo into Powerpoint then save as a movie.

So far as I know a .IMG is a format that emulates a disk. I'm assuming, then, that it's emulating a DVD in this case. If that's the case quick edits might be hard, but you should find some MPEG videos on the disk, Import those into iMovie and make your edits. Then you'll have to remake the DVD, probably using iDVD. Good luck!

You could use Handbrake to convert the DVD to a compatible format, then edit the video and burn it to DVD. Older article, but essentially the same applies: http://www.macworld.com/article/1157590/how_to_rip_dvd_handbrake.html download: http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
