How can I change the default program that’s called when I hit “Edit” in the context menu of an image file?

I’m using Windows 8, and I’d like to edit all images in Paint.NET as opposed to the built-in Microsoft Paint. I can find neither how to uninstall MSPaint in Windows 8, nor how to change what program is used by default to “edit” images. For now, I’ve been having to go to the “Open with…” menu and finding Paint.NET there every time I want to edit an image.

when you click "Open with" there is a check box at the top of the list of softwares. check the box to make the software you choose as default or uncheck it to just open the file through that software.

This is the same thing "ha14" posted; it doesn't solve my problem.

Here is a little app that makes it very easy:

You will have to change the default 'Edit With' for each of the image types (jpg, png, bmp) but it is straight forward enough.

This doesn't really help, because I want to change the program that opens when I hit "Edit" in the context menu; if I just change the regular default program, then even the images I simply want to view will open in my image editing software, which would be pretty annoying.
