I tried the first step, but it only hides the folder and the file name remains in view. I am using Windows XP Professional, SP2. Thanks.

August 30, 2010All you have to do is right-click the folder you want to hide, click Properties, and check the box that says Hidden.
To view hidden folders, open up a Windows Explorer window, click on View>Folder Options (I believe) and check the button that says “Show hidden files and folders”. To hide them again, go back in and set it back.

August 31, 2010I would suggest Steve’s way as well. But it’s not a why to hide files from anyone as they can just revert it back to show hidden files. Or you put everything on a flash drive you want to hide, and hide it someone where no one else will find it.

August 31, 2010well all said and done. i am giving u a one more option though not new but more secure than above mentioned solutions.
to hide ur personal and sensitive files and documents u can use folder locking softwares like folder guard, floder lock (I liked the GUI of this app that it is my favourite Locking software till date) to name a few.
these software different data encryption methods to lock the desired files and folders which only an admin rights holder/ or the person who is using this software can unlock.
you can download these software’s from their websites and after using the trail u can upgrade for pro version. these apps ask u to provide a master password to begin then retype to confirm it and its done. all you have to keep remember this master password known only to you and then in the prog. window it will ask u to add files and folders in browse. tick them and selected files will be locked. no other person can view those files during normal surfing on the system though u need to keep some things to avoid data stealth or loss.
u must understand that in case u forget ur master password u’ll not be able to access ur own files so better choose this password carefully. u can write it down somewhere or in your mobile phone’s notes just to recall it if u forget it.
some users can see these programs running in background simply by using task mgr processes. even if u havent left any desktop shortcuts or quick launch icons.so it may arouse suspicion in other users mind and they may try to use illegal means to steal ur data.
these programs can easily be disabled simply by uninstallation in add or remove prog. and then access ur hidden data. though i haven’t tried this method with latest fapps. so check it before depending fully on it.
to avoid these use an login password for window or create a user account for other persons to access ur computer so that they dont have sufficient rights to modify any system settings.
thats all i hope u like it. though due to anti piracy and concern for such app developers i m not giving u links where u can get pro version because these are very useful apps and it’d be better if purchased legally and support these companies for continuous developments of such amazing apps.
